Kenya Sugar Board Elections set for 25th May 2005.  Minister for Agriculture yet to announce criteria and modalities for election

 

Sugar Shortage hits Kenya due to confusion in import regulation.  Another reason why the Sugar Act must take account of amendments that give KSB greater powers to regulate imports.

 

National Sugar Conference was held from 26th October to 28th October, 2004.   President Mwai Kibaki opened conference and told stakeholders that we have 3 years to implement major reforms in the industry. Detailed conference documents to be available soon

ACP / EU Ministerial Conference on Sugar to be held in Kisumu, Kenya from 20/03/05 to 25/03/05 has been postponed to July 2005

 

Minister for Agriculture appoints Sugar Arbitration Tribunal  Nearly two years after Sugar Act was put in place, the Sugar Arbitration Tribunal has finally been constituted.

 

Mumias Sugar Company announces profits for half year results (upto December 2003).  amounting to Kshs 433 million after tax  This is the period since Booker Tate left MSC. [25/02/04]

 

Minister for Agriculture announces Kshs 800 million loan from the Sugar Development fund to pay farmers for arrears.  Over Kshs 1.7 billion is owed to farmers in the form of delayed payments. [24/02/04]
